Swisslog – Nowaste Logistics, the leading Nordic logistics company, is the first company in the world to install AutoCase™ from AutoStore™ at one of its logistics terminals. The innovative solution, which was unveiled in the fall of 2025, will be supplied and installed by Swisslog.
“AutoCase™ is a solution that is as simple as it is ingenious. It eliminates time-consuming manual labor and boosts efficiency, speed, and storage density at one of our highly automated logistics terminals,” says Patrik Johnfors, Head of Solution Design & Implementation at Nowaste Logistics.
Among other things, the terminal in question processes large quantities of clothing that are delivered from Asia in cartons. Upon arrival, these cartons must first be temporarily stored before being transferred at a later time to the facility’s AutoStore system, where they are picked.
“The delivery of merchandise for a new collection for the upcoming season takes place many weeks before shipments begin. In addition, inventory must be sufficient to cover an entire season, which can last up to six months. In our current processes, we handle this by temporarily storing the boxes on pallets in pallet racks and either restocking them or feeding them into the system as goods are shipped out. This requires extensive manual buffer management,” explains Patrik Johnfors.
With the high-density AutoCase™ solution, Nowaste Logistics will be able to efficiently store cartons directly in the AutoStore™ system upon receipt of goods. The cartons can then either be delivered unopened as complete units to the recipient or forwarded to a picking station for processing individual orders.
“We are very pleased that Nowaste Logistics is the first AutoStore customer to pilot AutoCase™. The company embraces innovation, is eager to test new solutions, and is not afraid to challenge established ways of working in order to further improve its processes. At Swisslog, we view the AutoCase port as a significant step forward, as it expands the range of applications that can be automated with AutoStore technology. By enabling the automated handling of cartons directly within the AutoStore system, the solution supports new workflows and helps customers achieve an even higher level of automation, efficiency, and operational flexibility,” says Giulia Colombi, CEO EMEA at Swisslog.
The solution was installed at the Nowaste Logistics terminal over the summer and is now being tested with various types and sizes of cardboard boxes before it goes into full operation.
